Granny Pods & Cabins

Granny pods and cabins for sale in Australia: self-contained backyard dwellings for family, guests or short-stay rental, delivered Australia-wide, GST included.

A granny pod is a small self-contained dwelling for a family member, a guest, a caretaker or a rental. The range runs from compact one-room cabins through to fully fitted pods with a bathroom, kitchenette and separate sleeping zone, and all of them arrive built or as a fast-assembly kit rather than as a conventional site build.

The main reason Australian families buy a granny pod is to keep a parent close without moving them into care or into the spare room. A pod at the back of the block gives both households a front door, a bathroom and privacy, on the same title and within calling distance. The second-largest use is short-stay rental: a pod that costs a fraction of a house extension can carry itself on nightly rates in a tourist region.

Bathroom or no bathroom is the decision that drives everything else. A pod with plumbing needs a connection to sewer or an approved on-site system and will almost always need council approval; a pod without it is far simpler to place. After that, look at the insulation rating, ceiling height, the amount of glazing, and whether the unit arrives finished or as a kit you complete.

Approval rules differ by state and council. A secondary dwelling generally needs approval; a non-habitable studio often does not. We are not planners, but we can supply the engineering, dimensions and weights your certifier will ask for — ask for them before you order rather than after.
